BUAIL, created for RTE’s The View Presents/Dance on the Box, is a collaboration between filmmaker Steve Woods and Irish Modern Dance Theatre. Buail makes a statement on the dynamics of harmony and the struggle for balance.

“CHOREOGRAPHER JOHN SCOTT and director Steve Woods pull off a brilliant stroke with their film Buail. Set in Dublin Civic Offices on Wood Quay, the dancers bump and slam into each other, assemble into groups for movement communication, then evaporate apart, shake frenetically at and on desks and dash about. They act out what all of us feel there but can't show, and make excellent choreographic and cinematic use of the premises and its glassy interior”

Christine madden/The Irish Times

The word BUAIL can mean both “to meet” or “to hit”.  This dichotomy is mirrored in the short film BUAIL. Raw frenetic dance is placed beside more deliberate, balanced movements and shot in a building which is in one scene dark and threatening and in the next scene warm and inviting.

Buail was commended at Galway Film Fleadh 2006.
