PRECIOUS METAL

Precious Metal is a powerful and playful work featuring an international team of technically brilliant and culturally diverse dancers and artists. Precious Metal combines passion, virtuosity and humour in an exciting progression of Scott's award-winning work with migrants and torture survivors. Precious Metal explores themes of identity, migration and belonging, past and present. The dancers speak different languages and have different cultures although they all now identify as Irish. The original sound composition, by Irish composer Tom Lane, is sampled from metallic sources, including cymbals, dulcimer strings and bells, reminiscent of Javanese gamelan. ‍

Precious Metal premiered at Project Arts Centre in December 2016 in a double bill with Merce Cunningham's Night Wandering.

"Scott’s choreography allows for moments of jerky aggressive gesture to merge into more serene moments of stillness, physicalising concepts of softness, hardness, rigidity and relaxation" - Clara Mallon, The Reviews Hub

"Precious Metal... forged a new admiration for the work being done with Irish Modern Dance Theatre" - Ciarán Gallagher, MEG

"We are in a playground of chaotic but internally consistent physicality; watching experts, razor-sharp performers. And somehow we are always part of the fun" - Bryan for DRAFF
